Technical Feature Overview

  • Support for Exchange 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 & 2003*, Windows Server 2016, 2012 and 2008 R2, & Small Business Server (SBS) 2011

Exchange Connector has been tested and is fully compatible with Exchange 2019, Exchange 2016, Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2010. The latest version is also compatible with Exchange 2007 & 2003. Separate 32-bit and 64-bit (x64) editions are available (however, licenses are not restricted to a specific platform).

*Note that while Exchange Connector can deliver messages to Exchange 2007 or 2003, starting with version 4.0, Exchange Connector must be installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 or later. Exchange Connector does not need to be installed on the Exchange Server.

  • Per Server Licensing

Each license is valid for an unlimited number of users. Only one license for each server is necessary. The maximum number of users is limited only by the capacity of the server.

  • Automatic Recipient Detection

When messages are downloaded from a POP3 server, Exchange Connector needs to know which Exchange mailbox to deliver to. This can be achieved either by analyzing the To, Cc and Bcc fields of the message, or by manually selecting one or more delivery mailboxes for each POP3 account.

  • Bulk Import

POP3 mailboxes and all mailbox settings can be bulk-imported from a CSV file.

  • Full Support for Exchange Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam Features

Messages are delivered using SMTP, ensuring full compatibility with anti-spam and anti-virus filters, and processing server-side Exchange rules.

  • SSL/TLS Support (Secure POP)

Also known as POP over SSL/TLS, Secure POP allows encrypted communications with POP3 servers if they support this feature. Secure POP greatly enhances security in a POP3 connector environment. Secure POP is necessary to communicate with Gmail. TLS 1.2 is fully supported.

  • Installation on a Separate Server

Exchange Connector can be installed either on the Exchange Server machine, or another machine on the network. Each installation of Exchange Connector connects to a single Exchange Server.

  • Runs as a Windows Service

You don't need to leave a user always logged on to the server – Exchange Connector runs in the background as a Windows NT service. When the computer is restarted, the service automatically restarts, ensuring continued delivery of mail.

  • Flexible Download Interval

Messages are periodically downloaded from the POP3 servers at an interval configurable from as low as 1 minute to as high as 1 hour.

  • Off-Peak Bandwidth Saver

Can be configured to download only during specified hours, e.g. between 9AM-5PM Monday-Friday, to save bandwidth during times when users do not need to access their mailboxes.

  • Multiple Users Per Mailbox

Each POP3 mailbox can deliver to multiple Exchange users or distribution groups.

  • Leave Messages on Server

Messages can be left on the POP3 server indefinitely, or for a period of up to 90 days.

  • Folder Delivery

Messages are delivered to a folder in the file system as EML files, to maintain an archive of all messages sent and received. Messages are sorted by POP3 server and POP3 mailbox.

  • Download Mail Now Button

"Download Mail Now" button allows the user to force immediate downloading of all mail, even outside normal download hours when the Off-Peak Bandwidth Saver feature is used.

  • Server Message View

The Server Message View feature allows you to see which messages are currently stored on the POP3 server, avoiding the hassle of temporarily configuring an Outlook client for POP3 access.

  • APOP Command Support

Automatic support for the APOP command ensures that passwords are not sent in plain text when not using SSL, with POP3 servers that support the feature. For maximum compatibility, Exchange Connector will fall back to plain text authentication if APOP authentication fails. You can also choose to manually disable APOP.

  • Outbound Connection Limiting

Limit the number of outbound connections provides for maximum support with firewalls.

  • SQL Server Logging

All POP3, SMTP and file I/O operations can be logged to a SQL Server database (including free SQL Server Express). For information on setting up SQL Server Logging, see the FAQ article.

  • Comprehensive Error Reporting

Delivery failure reports and program errors can be emailed to an administrator, logged to the event log and the SQL Server database, and optionally emailed to Quantum Software Solutions for bug reporting.
